It’s that time of the year again: the second Camp NaNoWriMo. Writers around the world will try to finish their projects in the span of a month. Or not. We’ll give it our best though. This time we get to choose our own goals. No 50.000 word minimum for a win. For this Camp NaNoWriMo, I’ll be working on several projects. I could focus on one but I really have to make way with both. So I’m going to set timed goals instead of word counts. The only reason I think I can do this is because both projects are in different stages.
Beelzebub’s Bargain Revision
With the revision for Lucifer’s Favour done, I can now focus on Beelzebub’s Bargain. Before I dive in, I want to prepare more for this revision. With Lucifer’s Favour, I felt lost after editing about a quarter of the book. I was overwhelmed, tired, confused. I dove right in without any preparation and had to do rewriting, rephrasing, redrafting at the same time. Shifting between the analytical and creative sides of writing is hard, especially when you have to make a dozen decisions as you go.
This time I want to be prepared and make the decisions before I even start revising. Then I know in advance when I have to rewrite something, or if I can make minor adjustments to make it work. I hope this will save me time in the end because I won’t spend time worrying, being confused, or fighting with myself. I’ll know exactly what I need to do. Then it’s just a matter of working the plan I made.
Project Mermaid Story
Earlier this year, I decided to take on Mermaid story as my third big project this year. It’ll be the first full-length novel in my Lunis Aquaria series, although my word count goal is 50k. It’s a standalone too, for now. I’ve got more ideas, and it’s possible you’ll see some characters returning in other books. But you can pick this one up at any time and not be confused because you haven’t read the other stories.
Mermaid story features the same main character as Undine’s Blessing, my newsletter exclusive short story. So if you want to get a sneak peek at what’s to come, sign up and start reading. Undine’s Blessing takes place after the novel I’m about to write, but again, you can read this one without being confused about the rest of the world. I’m excited to write it, and I think I can manage to write the majority in July. I’ve got a cover already, and an editor waiting in the wings. Everything is ready for mermaid story to be done. So let’s make it happen.
Good luck!!
