Work In Progress: Food Fashion Fame and Family

A writer should be writing. In the new series Work In Progress I will talk about projects I’m working on. I’m participating in Camp NaNo for the whole month of April. I’m making good progress with the goals I’ve set and shared with you before. But today I want to talk about what I’ll be working on after this.

For the past few months, I’ve been working on a new project on the side. Something that has a few of my passions combined. Food, fashion, fame, and family. Those will be the topic of a trilogy of romance novellas. They won’t be released soon since I’m just starting working on the outline. But I’m excited.

People always say “Write what you know”, while all the rebels are saying “Write what you don’t know”. The people who know me would group me with the rebels. That’s why I’m writing about things that I don’t know much about (just the basics), but I want to know more about. Doing research becomes a joy.

For the book focused on food, I want to create recipes that will be part of the story. You can cook along with the main character as she fights her way to be number one. I hope that I can find something as an added bonus for the other two books as well.

This project is in the back my mind, fermenting. Every time I think of something that would be perfect for these stories I write it down. I’ll later add it to my research section in Scrivener. Once I’m ready to sit down and churn out a full outline, I will hopefully have everything available to me, just one click away. I hope to get the full outline done before the end of summer and start writing the first part as part of NaNoWriMo.

Each book will follow one of the three themes, food, fashion or fame. The ‘family’-theme is central in all of the books. As I’ve planned them now, they can be read separately, but they are linked since the main characters are family. Each of them will have their own struggles. If you like chicklits like Confessions of a Shopaholic or The Devil Wears Prada, you will like these.
